Our process.
What to expect from the first conversation through installation and the years afterward, and how we think about the technology that goes into your home.
How a project goes
Most projects begin with a conversation in person. We walk through your home or review the plans together, talk about what you’d like to accomplish and get a clear understanding of the work before recommending the next step.
Occasionally, a small, clearly defined service request can be arranged through a conversation and a few photos. Usually, seeing the home or reviewing the plans together helps us ask the right questions and prepare for the work properly.
Whether we start with a repair, an update or a complete system, we want to get to know your home and become the people you trust to take care of its technology for years to come.
From the plan to the finished system
Larger projects move into an estimate or a detailed proposal, depending on the scope. We work through the design, equipment and budget with you so you understand the plan before deciding how to move forward.
On new construction and major remodels, we coordinate wiring, locations and finishes with your builder, designer and other trades. Then we install, program, test and calibrate the system in your home.
When we’re finished, we walk you through everything until you’re comfortable using it. Afterward, you call or text the same person when you need service, an update or just have a question.
How we think about technology
Build for today, but plan for change.
Electronics come and go. Good wiring, a solid network and flexible infrastructure can serve a home through several generations of technology.
Simple is better.
Technology should make your home easier to live in, not give you more things to manage. We choose and design systems around what will actually be useful to you.
Not every problem needs a new product.
Sometimes the right answer is an upgrade, sometimes it’s a repair and sometimes it’s leaving something alone. We’ll tell you what we think will make a meaningful difference and what probably won’t.
Relationships matter.
We want to build systems we can stand behind and clients we can continue to serve. Many of our relationships have lasted 10, 20 years or more, through new technology, new projects and sometimes entirely new homes.
When to involve us in a new build or remodel
When should we involve you in a new build or remodel?
Get in touch early, even if you’re not ready for installation. Seeing the home or reviewing the plans together helps us make recommendations and prepare for the work. Larger projects may require extra time for scheduling, coordination and ordering materials.
For a new build or extensive remodel, involve us while the plans are taking shape. Our wiring generally follows the plumbing and HVAC rough-in, toward the end of the electrician’s rough-in or shortly afterward. We work with your builder or general contractor and the other trades to fit our work into the construction schedule as it develops.
For a remodel, contact us before demolition if possible. We can look at the existing system and wiring, discuss what you want to change and plan for any work that needs to happen while walls and ceilings are open.
